- A Shot in the Dark by Krim.This just had a great tone from start to finish. There's something so perfectly classic Hollywood about the sound and clip choices that make one think about how Only Murders in the Building is both modern and a throwback given its casting.

by stymphalides. "Years after Merlin and Morgana fled Camelot together, they receive a surprise visitor who promises change." A play in one act in a single room, wonderfully paced and which earns its slow and not entirely certain resolution. - I Feel the Earth Move [Fanvid] by periru3, Tafadhali. Enormously fun disaster movie tribute (with a very apropos title sequence!)
- Vid: Stand By You by thingswithwings. "Male privilege is a shield; you can choose what you use the shield for." Sometimes you have to see the future to get there.
- Should Have Known Better by wrensandroses. I haven't seen a Queer as Folk vid for a long time, but I quite liked this one. For one thing it focuses on Brian's arc rather than his relationship with Justin, which I appreciated because I've seen such a bunch of ship vids for them in the past. And secondly, I think it does a good job of mining critical issues he confronts during the series.
- He's Safe Here by mayalunas. I really like BYOFP gifsets, which are (sometimes animated) fanfumetti. I thought this Merlin one worked really well as a slice of a larger story.

Dec. 7th, 2021 08:38 pmyourlibrarian- DC-SlashCon 2021 Opening Vid by Aaronantium, Kerguelen (Slashmommy). Dozens of slash ships take their bows in a wonderfully edited vid celebrating what brings many fans together.
- Merlin and Arthur kissing by Alex the Sapphic. Maybe NSFW? Beautifully done, the pose, the joined hands, the expressive details.
- But Now, I Know by IgnatiousTheWarlock. "Post the battle of Camlann, Morgana is approached by a mysterious force who gives her a second chance. Time is rewound. In a world so familiar, but strange, what will Morgana do with her second chance?" I've seen a number of time travel fics featuring either Merlin or Arthur but this is the first I can remember seeing using Morgana. An inventive plot and I like that the path was not smooth.
- The Order of the Wakandan Tribes by Petite Madame. Stunning fanart of the Black Panther cast.
- to buy my love a sword of steel by athousandvictories. Merlin if it took itself more seriously and actually focused on the traditional battles of Arthur's legendary campaign to unite Albion. Wonderfully done.

yourlibrarian- [Vid] St. Elmo's Fire by lilly_the_kid. Such a good recruiter vid for Cobra Kai, and I laughed when Eagle Fang made its appearance. Also such a powerful moment in that line I'd forgotten about: "You broke the boy in me, but you won't break the man."
- Reverberations by fanfoolishness (LoonyLupin). "Five times Din and Grogu encounter the dark side, and one time they encounter something altogether different." I liked this idea of Grogu's lessons in the Force, and Din's continued connection to him.
- Equilibrium by PSW. "McCoy's transport is destroyed in what appears to be a containment field explosion, leaving no known survivors. The truth, however, is not so simple as that ..." Lengthy, plotty story centered around Spock and McCoy and a number of original characters. Aside from having a gen story to dig into, I appreciated that it didn't end at the point where McCoy rejoins the Enterprise but rather follows the story to a different kind of conclusion.
- Hail Mary by galaxysoup. I'm not really reading SPN these days but this storyline not only fixed so much within SPN during its season but gave us a much better ending to the series. Plus, I think Castiel could use some motherly friendship.
- They Give It Away by BeatriceEagle. NSFW. "A vid about the women of DC comics" is true enough but it also says a lot about the comic book industry.

- [Vid] A Cowboy's Love by lilly_the_kid. A Mandalroian episodic vid about Din Djarin and Cobb Vance. I don't see many episodic vids anymore and this one was wonderfully put together.
- Syndication by scioscribe. "In this week's episode, Wanda and Vision help the boys with their history homework, and Wanda worries about the quality of education they're getting. [Rerun.]" Brief ficlet that fits seamlessly into the series premise.
- goal-oriented projects by rosepetalfall. Perfect little pre-OT3 fic of White Collar's El/Peter/Neal with bonus Trek fusion setting.
- The Order of The Avengers by petite madame. Incredible artwork of a dozen Avengers in fantasy Renaissance garb.
yourlibrarian- World Enough and Time by alicephantomwise. "Arthur had had it all figured out. And then Merlin shot him in Beijing." Not everyone's cup of tea, as it can be disturbing that Merlin and Arthur are assassins who enjoy their jobs. But it is interesting to see them in a different sort of relationship, one which doesn't follow a predictable path.
- [Podfic] The Spirit of the Law by GodOfLaundryBaskets. "Bruce Maddox gets what he wanted, and then what he deserves." This ST:TNG story is creepy in a suspenseful way.
- Are We Human? An Interrogation in Three Parts by echan. More a meta piece than the usual music vid, this work puts together bits from a number of canons that engage in the representation of sentient AIs. To my mind it asks what we're doing as we both create and imagine the future.
- [ART] Golden Age by Mygalomorff. "Doodle of Merlin and Arthur sharing a happy moment together." Not often we see them laughing together and there was such a happy atmosphere for this.
- Fanart of Bucky and Sam baking by muffinshark. Particularly love Bucky's apron.
- Flower Crowns by Spica. Speaking of happy atmosphere, love to see Gwen and Merlin interacting in art, and she looks so adorable as they have fun.
yourlibrarian- Fools of Us All story by adelagia, read by FayJay. Although I enjoy podfic I tend to have few listening hours, so some have been sitting on my computer for some time. I cringed at the idea that this one might no longer be available. An amusing Merlin/Arthur story, it goes straight into hilarious thanks to FayJay's performance of it. An absolute delight, it's a perfect exhibit of why podfic can make a story truly memorable.
The fact that a number of podfics were lost after a site hack is bad enough, but when I couldn't at first track this one down, it's particularly criminal that so many such fanworks have been lost. - gangster AU/suits and baddass by nancymerthurslover. Aside from great looks, I am particularly thrilled to see fanart including Lancelot and Gwaine as well as Merlin and Arthur.
- Explorer by RainbowLily. The wonderful expression of awe on Joann's face really grabbed me. ST: Discovery fanart.
- Rodney and John by the Water by Luluxa. I love their expressions and the tone of the artwork. SGA fanart.
- The Living and the Dead by Downey Stark. I'd been wondering for some time why there weren't a slew of constructed reality vids between Merlin and The Living and the Dead (or even Damien and Merlin for that matter). The setup is perfect for a haunted Merlin and a returning Arthur. But at least one person has, and demonstrates the various possibilities for this crossover.

It's been ten years since Arthur drifted away from him on the Lake of Avalon, but even inside Camelot's walls, Merlin is still lost. Merlin returns to the past, to an innocent, simpler time, armed with the knowledge of Arthur's fate."
Time-travel is the ultimate fix-it format, but what is striking about this story is less what Merlin does as opposed to the cost he bears of doing so. The ending makes it clear that this is the focus of the story, and I love that it does not tie things up neatly.
