Dependency by walkingivy
Fandom: Star Trek TOS
Pairing: Bones/Spock
Word Count: 158,197 words (for the entire series)
Rating: T (parts 1-4), E (part 5)
Warnings: Hurt/Comfort
Summary: When Spock and Bones are trapped in a no-win scenario on a slave planet, they become closer than anyone would have thought possible.
Reccer's Note: This story is as good as any of the Star Trek tie-ins I've read with the added bonus of Spones. The author does such a great job of creating believable Trek missions with interesting aliens, while also blending in canon events. It is very McCoy focused, but there are other POVs, and everyone sounds in character. The author also does an amazing job of bringing back small plot points from the early part of the series and making them relevant later on. The romance between Spock and McCoy is very, very slow burn, but feels amazingly worth it. The first four parts (128,197 words) make a complete and satisfying story, the fifth part was a sequel that the author became disillusioned with and never completed, so you can skip it if you want.
One Night by story_monger
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Castiel/Sam
Word Count: 56,289 words
Rating: T
Warnings: Sex work, discussions of drug addiction, some discussion of past child abuse, Non-Supernatural AU, some self hatred by Cas, but he is ultimately accepting of his own and Sam's sexuality
Summary: Castiel has already gone through the rigmarole of coming out as asexual and aromantic. That somehow doesn't stop a few unruly cousins from setting Castiel up with a stupidly tall sex worker named Sam. Castiel is mortified and ready to put the whole thing behind him, except he and Sam inexplicably bump into each other again a few weeks later. It marks the beginning of a friendship that ushers them into new territories, both with each other and the people around them.
Reccer's Note: I don't normally like non-supernatural AUs, but this is one of my all time favourite Sastiel fics. I haven't read a lot of asexual Cas, but I think this fic handles it really well. Cas works at a museum, and Sam is a law student who pays for school via sex work. I think Sam's profession is also handled well, it showcases that it is okay for Sam to be a sex worker, while also not shying away from some of the dangers inherit in that type of work. It is such a great fic that shows Cas and Sam forming an unlikely friendship, and the two them trying to figure out what type of relationship they can have while dealing with a variety of issues. This is also where I confess that in AU fics I love when all the angels are part of a large extended, dysfunctional family, and this fic delivers. This fic is chocked full of side characters, and not just the angels, Meg, Charlie, Benny, Mrs Tran, Ellen, Jo, Ash and of course Dean. It deals with some tough issues while also managing to be sweet. I can't tell you how much I love this fic, I was sad to see it end, I just wanted to read more about their lives together
The Last Outpost of All That Is by gekizetsu
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Word Count: 59,037 words
Rating: Not Rated (but I would say it's M)
Warnings: N/A
Summary: Sam and Dean are the last two people left on Earth
Reccer's Note: The author does a fantastic job describing a post-apocalyptic world where Sam and Dean are the only two survivors, and this isn't like the apocalypse from the show with Angels and Demons, and epic battles, no this is a quiet apocalypse where Sam and Dean wake up one morning and everyone else is gone. Set roughly after the ending of season 2. The story really focuses on Dean and Sam trying to process what has happened, and the trauma of such a situation. It is wincest, but how they come together makes complete sense given the context of the story, they only have each other to turn to for comfort.
A Flower In Autumn by enigmaticagentscully
Fandom: The 100
Pairing: Kane/Abby, minor background Bellamy/Clarke
Word Count: 63,627 words
Rating: T
Warnings: AU - Regency
Summary: A.K.A. The Melodramatic Kabby Regency Romance AU You Never Knew You Needed Until Now
Reccer's Note: If you like regency romance novels you will probably enjoy this fic. The author was able to make Abby and Kane sound pretty in character even though they had been plunked into a different genre and time period, which is a feat within the itself. There are also some delightful cameos from early seasons characters like Vera Kane and Diana Sydney.
