recthething4 recs for Critical Role, The Flash, RPF - NPR, & The Social Network -
I thought it'd be fun to start things off with fics I've recced a bunch before, that really stand up to reading over and over again <3
Critical Role: third base is when you talk about your mutual daddy issues by cinderfell, vex/zahra, 2k, rated t
Perhaps Vex has more in common with her attractive third baseman than she thinks.
There's something magical about a complete au that manages to manages to capture aspects of canon and characterization so well that it just *fits* and immerses you.
The Flash: The Girlfriend Caper by Esmenet, iris/lisa & barry/iris, 10k, rated t
Instead of killing the Flash's girlfriend, Lisa Snart is going to STEAL the Flash's girlfriend! IN A DATING WAY.
or, to put it another way: Featuring Lisa Snart’s transition from “I’m going to KILL the Flash’s girlfriend like he killed my boyfriend!” through “I’m going to STEAL THE FLASH’S GIRLFRIEND like he STOLE ROSCOE FROM ME” to “I’m going to completely ignore Barry Allen’s existence and DATE HIS WIFE”.
(On balance, even Barry will admit this is probably better.)
This fic cracks me up every time I read it, and has become my go-to cheer up fic. While Lisa's characterization is from the comics, it's very accessible if you only watch the show. There's also lovely art within the fic itself \o/
RPF - NPR: Wait Wait Don't Eat Me by Nestra, gen, 1k, rated g
"We're going to be cutting our show a little short today, because, as you may have heard, there's an apocalypse happening! But we didn't let the election of Barack Obama stop us, and we're not going to let the zombie hordes stop us either."
With over forty-four thousand hits, you may have heard of this one. A delightful zombie au with spot-on voices, and the only fic I rec to non-fandom people. There's also a podfic version ^.^
The Social Network: Girls Like Us by FreshBrains, alice/christy lee/erica, 1k, rated e
“Relax, babe. We’re at Harvard.”
Somehow in under a thousand and a half words, this fic gets the essence of new england college, just nails the setting, and also puts on a super hot show - semi-public sex and light D/s, and bringing in a third, absolutely delightful.
